Lamar/Burnet Study 11/21/2011
The City of Austin Transportation Department is hosting a series of stakeholder meetings, to gather input on its corridor study. The study only looks at 5 corridors, and one of those is the North Lamar.
Crestview United Methodist Church – Fellowship Hall 1300 Morrow Street, Thursday, January 19, 2012 10:00 am-7:00 pm Three things you need to know: 1. They need to hear from the community. This is your chance to say what you love or hate about North Lamar, and what needs to be fixed. 2. In February, the recommendations from this study will be taken to City Council. There will then be a bond put forth for a 2012 election. In the past, North Austin has been short-changed on these bonds - but this time the bond will be on 5 corridors and two of those are Burnet and North Lamar. Hopefully THIS time we will get a more equal share of the money. Add Comment NACN's next quarterly meeting - January 18 11/21/2011

You can click here download it. What follows is the rationale for this approach to single-member districts:
Do We Want Geographic Representation at City Hall? Once again, the City is talking about re-districting; moving from our at-large system, where the six council member seats are not tied to any specific geographic location, to a single-member district system, where council members would be tied to a specific geographic location. There seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around out there, so I am going to attempt to break this down, and explain why we need to put a lot of thought into what North Austinites want, not just as a community, but also what is best for our City and its future. ![]() A map showing one proposal for Austin City Council districts. A Charter Revision Committee has been assembled to make recommendations on how to structure the districts. | Welcome to North Austin!
